Natividad - Colca Design
Natividad has been working with us for over a year. She is our partner for our products in the Arequipen Colca design.
The Colca design is characterized by the embroidery of flora and fauna native to Arequipa. These include dahlias, cacti, geraniums, corn, condor, vicuña, rabbits, guinea pigs, vizcacha, birds, ducks and fish.
The special thing about Natividad: She embroiders all the products freehand and from memory.
Her crafts have won more than 20 awards in Peru and other Latin American countries. The last prize she won was the Joaquín López Antay 2023 National Medal, awarded by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).
Although she would like to showcase her products in international exhibitions, she dreams of leaving a legacy. She believes that today's young people have the will and desire to learn about these historic weavings and embroidery. "I want to teach, I can't take what I know with me," she says, explaining that many young women who work and study have already passed through her workshop and are now forging their own path.
